In To Float In The Space Between Terrance Hayes reflects on the life and poetry of Etheridge Knight, turning to Knight’s work as a type of shifting map with which to explore the uncertainty of voice, of biography, of self, of influence and fellowship. Calling Knight’s a “poetics of liquid” Hayes writes, “The poetics of liquid is the poetics of wind. The poetics of liquid is the poetics of escape, the poetics of doors and windows. The poetics of liquid is the poetics of hallucination. It is the poetics of blood. It is the poetics of feeling.” In this Master Class, Hayes will guide in participants in continuing to explore the critical insights offered and questions raised by Etheridge Knight.
