Call for Communications + Social Media Intern
The Poetry Project is excited to announce this search for a Communications and Social Media Intern to support the work of events promotion and outreach. This role will focus on publicity, communications, as well as online and community engagement of The Poetry Project’s ongoing and growing communities. Weekly responsibilities one day per week in the office (4-6 hours) as well as one evening event per week.
We offer a modest stipend for internships, professional recommendations, and a starting point for aspiring performers, writers and curators. The Poetry Project is a poet-run, nonprofit arts organization committed to countering institutional barriers through expanded access to poetry. We welcome internship applications from all candidates regardless of educational background and encourage applicants of all experiences, races, ethnicities, gender and sexual identities, and disability statuses to apply. Applicants should have a strong interest in contemporary poetry, and be conversant with social media platforms. Interns may work for college credit if desired.
To apply, please send your resume and/or CV with “Communications + Social Media Intern 2020” in the subject line to internships@poetryproject.org. Please include a brief (250 word max) cover letter in the body of your email that includes 1) why you would like to intern for The Poetry Project 2) your specific interest/experience in communications and social media.
Position is open until filled.
Internships
The Poetry Project offers a modest stipend for internships open to undergraduates, graduate students, recent grads, and non-grads who are looking for experience in a small, poet-run, not-for-profit arts organization. Applicants should have a strong interest in contemporary poetry. Interns may work for college credit if desired.
We ask that all interns work one day per week in the office (4 hours total), as well as one evening event per week. General office hours are 12pm to 7pm, Monday through Friday. Interns can choose to work at either the Monday (8pm, bi-monthly), Wednesday (8pm, weekly), or Friday (8pm, bi-monthly) reading series, based on their interest and availability.
Work at the readings entails arriving at 7:15pm, 45 minutes prior to the event start time, in order to help set up the chairs, box office, and book sale table. Readings last approximately one to two hours, and afterward staff, interns, and volunteers are responsible for breaking down the room.
Volunteering
Volunteers and interns are cherished at The Poetry Project. Volunteering can mean anything from an annual two-hour shift at the New Year’s Day Marathon benefit to a weekly chair-stacking gig at one of our three reading series. We’re always accepting new volunteers and are ever-appreciative of additional support! Please email Roberto Montes at rm@poetryproject.org if you’d like to discuss volunteer options.
