The evening will celebrate the publication of the poems of Alexander Vvedensky and Vsevolod Nekrasov in English. Vvedensky (1904-1941), one of the founders of OBERIU, the last Russian avant-garde group, is currently recognized as one of the most influential poets of the twentieth century.  Readers include Eugene Ostashevsky and Matvei Yankelevich, translators of Alexander Vvedensky, An Invitation for Me to Think (New York Review of Books, 2013), and Bela Shayevich and Ainsley Morse, translators of I Live I See: The Poems of Vsevolod Nekrasov (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2013).  They’ll be joined by Russian poet and activist Kirill Medvedev, called “the most exciting phenomenon in Russian poetry at the beginning of the new century.” N+1 and Ugly Duckling Presse have just released It’s No Good, a collection of his poems and essays translated by Keith Gessen with Mark Krotov, Corry Merrill, and Bela Shayevich.
