Stephen Cope & Ishion Hutchinson

Stephen Cope is the editor of George Oppen: Selected Prose, Daybooks, and Papers (University of California Press, 2007), and published poems and/or articles in Denver Quarterly, JacketReview of Contemporary FictionBlackwell Companion to Modern Poetry, and elsewhere. “Conference of the Birds,” Cope’s program/podcast of popular, classical, and experimental musics from around the world provides the impetus for his ongoing poem of the same name, excerpts from which have most recently appeared in XPoetics and Wheelhouse. The program airs weekly on several community radio stations in New York and online at http://conferenceofthebirds.podbean.com. He lives in Ithaca, NY, teaches at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY, and serves on the faculty of Bard College’s Language and Thinking Program. With Eula Biss and Catherine Taylor, he was a founding editor of Essay Press, for which he currently serves as contributing editor. Ishion Hutchinson was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica. His first collection, Far District: Poems (Peepal Tree Press Limited, UK, 2010), won the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award and the Whiting Writer’s Award. He is an assistant professor of English at Cornell University.
