It is with great sorrow that we learned of Jane Freilicher’s passing. Our 90th birthday event for her will go on this Friday as planned, but as a celebration of her life and her extraordinary career as a painter and a “painter among poets.” Admission is free.
Please join us as we celebrate the extraordinary life of painter Jane Freilicher (1924-2014). Readings and tributes by John Ashbery, Adam Fitzgerald, Maxine Groffsky, Tom Healy, Alex Katz, Vincent Katz, Amy Klein, Jenni Quilter, Karen Roffman, Charles Simic, Emily Skillings, Richard Thomas and Anne Waldman will be followed by the screening of a short recently rediscovered film “Presenting Jane” (co-directed by Harrison Starr, screenplay by James Schuyler, starring Jane Freilicher, Frank O’Hara and John Ashbery) along with Rudy Burckhardt’s “Mounting Tension.”
Co-sponsored by Harvard Film Archive / Woodberry Poetry Room and Tibor de Nagy Gallery.
