We are sad to hear that painter Deborah Remington passed away at 79 years old. She was one of the young artists that started the legendary 6 Gallery in San Fransisco in the 1950’s. Her name will be familiar to those of you who attended the reading for The Collected Books of Jack Spicer reading at the Poetry Project on May 15, 2009. Kevin Killian interviewed her about her times with Spicer on the Sanctuary stage, and honestly, she was so charming she “stole the show”. Kevin posted an extraordinary tribute to her and account of that great night on the SF Moma Open Space blog. And you can see her art here. Seems like she has a current show called “Psychedelic: Optical & Visionary Art Since the 1960’s”. She left right after her spot the night of Spicer, off to a dinner party friends were throwing in her honor. -SS
